New-Port, March 10. The following was spoken extempore by a
Daughter of Liberty at Providence, to a young gentleman, who
appears to have solicited marriage, but not being inclinded
to oppose the execution of the Stamp Act, meets with this
cruel repulse, viz.
I.
A while fond Damon, prithe tarry,
Nor woe me to thy eager arms,
Thinkest thou, this a time to marry,
When our dear country's in alarms?
. . . [3 verses] March 23d, Phileluthera.
